“Alien” Victor Wembanyama Makes History with 50-Point Game
Not only did Victor Wembanyama become one of the youngest players in NBA history to score 50 points, but he also achieved a unique 3-point shooting feat never before seen in San Antonio Spurs history.
Stopping Victor Wembanyama, the reigning Rookie of the Year and a generational talent in the NBA, is no easy task. The Washington Wizards experienced this firsthand, as they struggled against Wembanyama’s dominant performance.
The young star of the San Antonio Spurs set a new personal record with 50 points, playing a key role in their 139-130 victory over the Wizards at Frost Bank Center.
Victor Wembanyama not only broke his previous career-high of 40 points but also raised it to an impressive 50 points in what stands as the most remarkable game of his career so far. The French center sank 8 three-pointers, shooting 18-29 from the field, with 6 rebounds, 2 assists, and 3 blocks.
Alongside the impressive 50 points (the Spurs’ first 50-point game in over five years), Wembanyama made history by hitting at least 6 three-pointers in three consecutive games, marking a first for San Antonio Spurs.
Victor Wembanyama also achieved another historical milestone, becoming the fourth youngest player in NBA history to score 50 points in a game. Only three players — Devin Booker, LeBron James, and Brandon Jennings — reached this milestone at a younger age.
Washington Wizards fought hard to keep the game close during the first two quarters, heading into halftime tied at 76-76. However, in the third quarter, Wembanyama and his teammates took control, nearly doubling the Wizards’ points with a 23-7 run, including 17 points by Wembanyama, with three successful three-pointers.
In the fourth quarter, the French star hit the 50-point mark before being subbed out, with the Spurs leading by 17 points.
Wembanyama‘s shining performance also overshadowed the 42 points and 6 three-pointers scored by Jordan Poole from the Washington Wizards.
